Well, as of tomorrow, there's only a month left before we leave for the Land of the Rising Sun! There's still plenty to do- asking AT&T about phones, buying our rail passes, and exchanging currency- but the planning is all done and our itineraries are set. To give an idea of the scope of our trip, below is a map of the main island, Honshu (the upper part is cut off), and Shikoku, the smallest of the four main islands. Our trip route is highlighted in orange with pink for day-trips.
We arrive in Tokyo (far right), travel north to the alps, then southwest
to the ancient capital of Kyoto. After a few days there, we continue on
to spend 5 days on Shikoku in two different cities, and then back
towards Kyoto to Japan's third largest city, Osaka. Finally, we return
to Tokyo for a couple days before catching a flight back east.
It's hard to believe this is really happening! I'm super excited and hope everyone who reads this blog can enjoy learning about Japan through the posts I'll make from there. :)
